Flora and Fauna of Larch Hill

Larch Hill is a place where young people can enjoy outdoor pursuits and sport in a safe friendly and secure environment. And “to assist young people in achieving their full spiritual, intellectual, physical, and cultural potential so as to take a constructive place in society as good citizens”.

Larch Hill is filled with many natural amenities and wild life. Animals that can be found  throughout the estate include deer, rabbits, squirrels, fox, badgers and much more. The campsite also operates a reduce,re-use, recycle policy.

 

Larch Hill is so-called as it is reputed that it was the site of the first ever planting of the European larch species in Ireland.  The estate is also home to many different rare and exotic species of trees, some of these are over 150 years old and include the Monkey Puzzle, Giant Redwood and Larch trees. As you travel around the estate you will see young trees that have been recently planted as part of Larch Hill’s policy on renewing trees on the estate. Maybe your group would consider buying some trees as your contribution to improving the environment.

The Tree Council of Ireland has initiated a Family Tree Scheme with Scouting Ireland in Larch Hill giving people the opportunity of having trees planted in their names and ensuring the continuity of one of our most precious national assets.
The Larch Hill Family Tree Scheme enables you to commemorate an important event, or to remember a loved one. Your family tree will span the human generations, giving pleasure to many, while enriching Ireland's natural heritage.

  • •  Your name, the name of the person and occasion you want remembered will be entered into a record book.

  • •  Your certificate recording the dedication will be sent to the person of your choice.

  • •  Your donation goes to the Larch Hill International Scout and Guide Campsite and the Tree Council of Ireland, price €50
